Can't the salami movie organizer search in subfolders? All my movies are sorted in genre folders, do I really have to load every folder after another?

But only once at a time. But I'm not really satisfied with that tool at all, it works too slow.

Regarding the issue of the mymovies.xml being written, would simply making those files read-only prior to running salami prevent overwriting/ creating new useless ones?

I dont think it would do anything in that case.

Salami was a little to slow and tedious for me, so I created a quick C# program to create my shortcuts for me.
it doesn't do much in the way of error checking, etc but works great for me. source is included if you feel like improving it or just intrested in how it works.

basicly it looks in each subfolder for a mymovies.xml, reads the genre and title information from that file. it then creates shortcuts in each genre subfolder pointing to the movie folder. requires mymovie.xml file in each movie folder

requires 2 command line options
1) source location for movies
2) where you want shortcuts created

eg. if you had
d:\avatar\avatar.mkv
d:\shrek\shrek.mkv
and wanted your shortcuts created in c:\shortcuts
use the command
genre.exe d:\ c:\shortcuts

It is not really necessary to use the Genre folders anymore (unless you are doing something out of the ordinary with them). See the Knowledge Base article here for details on how to set it up with the latest release of Media Browser.
