Cant get MB to work on my XBox 360

Postby delboypb » Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:53 am

Apokogies in advance if this question has been asked many times previously. Ive been going through the board for hours and cannot find anything relating to my specific problem.

Ive got MB working just fine on my Windows 7 pc and the movies stream fine to my xbox . The problem I have is that I cannot launch MB from the xbox. It comes back with an error "Access to the path 'C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser\Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml' is denied.

Can anybody please suggest any steps I can take to sort this please as I am loving the way MB looks on my pc?

I am not massively pc savvy but I can follow instructions.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Regards

Ive solved the problem above but now have another.

Having spent hours getting all the right meta data for all my movies, I was about to sit down and enjoy the fruits of my labour but unfortunately my xbox is deciding to not play ball. It will play some movies and not others. All are divx/xvid so not sure why some should play and others will not.

Any help would be great

Thanks again

Im seeing a pattern with the movies I cannot play. They appear so far to be multipart movies. Is this a problem for media browser? If so then Ill have to get joing them somehow. If not can someone suggest a solution please.

Thanks again

playlists will not work on an extender if you are transcoding

if you are not transcoding is the play list setting set?

joining them is easier
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2658

only takes a minute or so

Hi there cheers for the help. I saw that topic earlier but have no real concept what to do with command prompts etc so could do more harm than good. Also I really didnt understand the instructions, not because they are unclear but because my knowledge is lacking. Is there any simpler way of doing it? I appreciate its probably simple to those used to it but I havent got a clue on what a batch file is or how to use it.

I love the way media browser looks and operates and will be gutted if I cannot use it

Thanks for your help

Grab this file

http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1349444/m ... joiner.rar

un rar it to where ever now copy the two files to a folder where you have a 2 part movie

1.Open Notepad (you can use any text editor, but I am going to assume Notepad).
2.Type/paste the commands you want to be in your batch file. In this case Type everything in the brackets but not the brackets
["joiner.bat" "filename a.avi" "filename 2.avi"] make sure you change filename a.avi and filename 2.avi to the actual filenames of you two part movie
3. Select File > Save As.
4.In the dialog, browse to the location where you want to save the batch file.
5.Change the “Save as type” option to “All Files (*.*)” and then enter the file name ending with “.bat”, for example: 2part.bat
6.Alternate to step 5, you can enter the file name “2part.bat” (including the quotes) and this will ignore the Save as type setting.
7.Click Save.
8 Then browse to the folder with explorer and run the 2part.bat and hey presto movies are joined

This will fail if both parts of the movie are not exactly the same ie same resolution codec etc

to do the next one copy mencoder.exe ,joiner.bat and 2part.bat to the next folder edit 2part bat with notepad and then run it again

hope this helps

Alternative way to join the parts.
Get yourself this http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
when you have it installed go to file and open the first part of your movie then on the audio and video tabs make sure 'direct stream copy' is checked.
now go to file and 'append video' this will open explorer choose your second part to your movie then just save as avi it will take around two minutes to join.
hope this helps

VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files however there is Virtualdub-MPEG2
just thought that mencoder does everything straight out of the box may have been the easier option
