A question to devs (soultaker ?)

Hi All

Did some investigation to the bug reported by DemonSeed, to cut a long story short it is a bug in the .NET frame work, when scanning directories it attempts to read directories that you have no rights to. Anyway I fixed the issue and added the ability for it to have multiple src folders set.
All seems to work fine for me.

I also found a bug in the container/collection folder cleanup logic ( it was not moving movie links in a collection folder up folder level if there was just one movie in the collection folder, hope that makes sense)

I have put the latest version 2009-07-15

Cheers 8-)

Scanning for multiple folders is a great addition.
Thanks a lot

Wow, so simple yet amazingly powerful and FAST..OMG FAST!

THanks a million.

I have a problem. Here is my folder structure:
k:\movies\action\MOVIE NAME\
k:\movies\chick flicks\MOVIE NAME\
k:\movies\horror\MOVIE NAME\
(However I think you could care less about my "structure" because it is based on the meta data you scan right?)

When I run the program, it creates it all and no errors, but I get alot of embedded folders for the same genre, ie:

k:\movies\action\MOVIE NAME1\
k:\movies\action\action\MOVIE NAME2\
k:\movies\action\action\MOVIE NAME3\

Not sure where it is coming from, maybe my meta data is hosed up? Still don't think it should embed the genre in a genre folder. Here are some pics to help explain it better.

Bah...I guess I found out sorta what "Keep collection folders" means. I turned that off and it only created the root level genre folders and shortcuts in side. Hope this helps others!

Hcasse - this little program is great! One issue I have come across is that not all the folder being created are shortcuts? In each genre folder I have a few random movies that it will create the folder, copy the contents of the movie folder and then inside that folder there is a shortcut to the movie folder. For example, I have J:\DVD Movies by Genre\Comedy\Grumpy Old Men and then inside that folder is a shortcut to the Grumpy Old Men folder, instead of the shortcut to the folder being in the Comedy root folder. The only error I see in the log is the first line:
Error : The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007B)

What can I do to fix this?

This is really bad... what happens if you try and look up an actor you will get multiple copies of that actor's movie.

Example:
"Fight Club" genre: Thriller, Action

You map this movie via shortcuts to both locations. Now when you do a global lookup on Brad Pitt (the actor), media browser returns Fight Club twice.

Soultaker...
I find you are a bit harsh here...("this is really bad" is a bit too strong isn't it ?)

Considering that here is no other way to have correct genres for collection folders although it was was requested a looong time ago, and although it has been available in mymovies for years, well I think hcasse's solution is simply great. Of course it may not be perfect, but neither is MB in this area.

As far a I am concerned, I think this is a great workaround to what is probably the only real flaw in MB, and as you said it would not be solved in 2.0.12, hcasse surely deserves a big thank you for this.
On a selfish point of view, as I always use the Classic theme instead of the Vanilla one, I couldn't care less about any possible problem with actor lookup (never was interested in polluting my hard drive with thousands of useless actor faces anyway)

No offense intended, as you know that I have a great respect for your work here, but this tool is really helpful to some users here and also deserves some respect. I hope you guys can find some inspiration from this to come up with an even nicer solution in a future release.

Can't simply bash a guy who is trying to be helpful to the community.

PS: Come on... only your wife would want to do a lookup on Brad Pitt anyway

No no, you are mistaking my "really bad" for something far more than intended. Another way of saying what I said would have been that this is "really bad practice" it nothing to do with on hcasse at all. As long as you guys are aware of this - thats fine.

sorry if I hurt anyones feelings :(

OK Soultaker,

I suppose me being French is the cause for my misunderstanding. All clear now.
