TIP: Add Transparency Around Selected Icon

Postby Olywa123 » Tue May 12, 2009 7:52 pm

Hi Guys,

This doesn't seem to be well known so I thought I'd highlight it over here. I see a lot of great images and backdrops on peoples main screens but often with a horrible blue or grey area around the icon that is being selected (maybe some like it like that but I'm guessing you just didn't know that you could change it easily), hard to explain in words so here is what I mean.

TRANS.jpg

It is possible to change this so that Media Browser does not add the blue or grey colour to the icon being selected and keeps the original transparency. Here is how...

First start MB in the color scheme you want to start with (blue or black) and exit. Then if you look in c:\programdata\mediabrowser you will now find a file called "Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml" if you copy this to a file called "CustomStyles.mcml" you can then tweak the colors yourself.

The color you want to play with is PosterZoomBackground, setting it to "Transparent" will, well, make it transparent. other colors are specified as "alpha, red, green, blue"

(Note if you do this and things don't load or your get errors the first thing to try is removing the CustomStyles.mcml file, if that works then check the formatting and also check that you have all the elements.

I also had a discussion with the Dev's about it here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=552&p=2991&hilit=olywa+paul+transparent#p2991

I saw a post in general discussions about this with someone asking if it was possible so thought I'd meniton it here as some of you may not know.

Hope it helps,
Olywa

If you try this and it makes you happy let us know!!! :D

Olywa123,

I find the tutorial a bit confusing. You wrote...

"find a file called "Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml" if you copy this to a file called "CustomStyles.mcml" you can then tweak the colors yourself"

Are we supposed to "copy, paste, rename "Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml" to "CustomStyles.mcml" in the c:\programdata\mediabrowser folder??

Then what exactly are we changing on the .mcml document, from this...

<Color Name="PosterZoomBackground" Color="255, 32, 83, 136"/> to this... <Color Name="PosterZoomBackground" Color="Transparent"/>

Is this what were doing???

Thanks for the tutorial BTW!!

Hi leonydus,
Sorry it wasn't very clear, I copied exactly what the devs worte for me :) Actually I think you got it exactly right with what you said:

1) Goto c:\programdata\mediabrowser
2) Make a copy of "Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml" and rename it to "CustomStyles.mcml" (you should not edit the original "Styles_DoNotEdit.mcml")
3) Open your "CustomStyles.mcml" that you created and find <Color Name="PosterZoomBackground" Color="255, 32, 83, 136"/> (I think those numbers may be different depending on which theme you ar using i.e. grey or blue)
4) Change this line to <Color Name="PosterZoomBackground" Color="Transparent"/>
5) Save the file and close
6) Start Media Browser and enjoy :)

Any problems let me know and I will try to help.

Olywa

Yes, I just tested what I wrote and it worked. Right click the new file and select "open" then choose M$ Word. It worked like a charm.

Thanks for this, its been bothering me for a while now. :D

Great,
Glad it worked for you :)

You can see that this custom file will also let you play with other aspects of Media Browser such as font colours, backdrop filters, etc. for those who are daring enough to experiment :D

Thanks from me too, I've been wanting a fix for that for a long time.

Guess I need to start digging into old threads. :geek:

Now if we could get rid of the white border around the selected icon and more colors to choose from, this would be perfect.
