Television DVD Rips

Television DVD Rips

Postby waghelsg » Sat Apr 17, 2010 2:59 am

Hi everyone,

I want to apologize in advance if this question has already been answered- I looked and was not able to find anything in the forums or the knowledge based that answered my specific problem... I have two options both I can take (which sadly, I both need help on)

Option A)
What I'm having trouble with is metadata of dvd rips of television series. My file structure looks something like this: c:\movies\the wire (2002)\disc one\video_ts\(bunch of dvd structure files)*.vob
(I'm trying to keep the *.vob files since my networked ps3 has no trouble playing those and my dvd ripping software outputs the *.vob files natively.)

Is there a reason this isn't working. There straight rips of a popular tv series so I'm a little confused and assume I'm a noob doing something wrong. So what do I do? Or...

Option B)
If there's no practical way to automatically resolve this I know I can add my own folder and backdrop images from thetvdb.com but how do I add info on the general and actor pane of media browser as well?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

I had the same problem. You will find the the DVD is seen as a film. I decided to use makeMKV in order to rip the individual episodes into seperate files. This was the only way I could get to recognise the individual episodes as tv. The problem I suspect is that each disk has several episodes in it which cannot be identifies as series/edisode. You need the S01E01 type name format in the name in order to identify it as a series/episode.

skynet is right, i dont know of a way to have MB recognize full discs; you have to rip them to individual episodes.

Thank you for your help skynet and tp! Would you be able to recommend a good tutorial for taking the *.vob files on my hard drive and making them into separate *.mkv episodes like you mentioned?
