Music Plugin Question

I have a ton of music that I have collected over the years. Problem is I have them in folders according to their genre NOT according to the artist. I have many songs that I dont even know what album they belong to and even if I did the album would not be complete. Is there an easy way to get my folders in the format the music plugin likes. I believe the format is
Artist\Album\Tracks

What I have is Genre\tracks

Is there some way around this ??? I wish I did have complete albums, but I just have the songs I wanted from an album.

Does this really matter if you choose to use ID3 tags instead of file names to identify the tracks (there's an option for that it the plugin settings, which is turned off by default)? Using ID3 tags should disregard the folder structure completely (but I don't know if that's really how it works).
