Video quality not as good as Media Player

Video quality not as good as Media Player

Postby solid7x2 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 3:27 pm

If I play a movie in Media Browser and the same file in regular windows media player, Player clearly looks better.

I opened a movie and paused it at the same spot; browser looks faded and washed out while player looks crisp, clear, and great.

Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix?

Are you on a 64bit version of Windows? Do you use any codec packs? If you are on x64 then you will have a x64 Media Centre while you will likely be using the x86 Media Player. Differences in the codecs used by the different architecture players can cause different picture quality.

Actually yes, I am running windows 7 64 bit. I am running core-avc. I guess the Media Centre is using the x64 codec and the media player is using the x86 codec.

Are there any suggestions on the best way to handle this? Can I maybe force x86 media center or something? (although that does not seem likely) arg.

I guess I can always re-install win 7 if needed.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated... I'm sure I'm not the first person to come across this.

have you installed coreavc in 64bit version (if available) and also the corresponding Haali Splitter in 64bit version?

I would suggest the same as above, and add that no, unfortunately you cannot force an x86 Media Centre in x64 Windows, Microsoft only provide the one architecture of Media Centre with each version of Windows, though they do provide both an x86 and x64 Media Player; the x86 is just the default.

This is a nit but just so new folks are clear on this type of thing - Media Browser has nothing to do with your playback quality. It is Media Center that is causing this.

Yes I know that.

Does anyone use 64 bit core-avc codecs? I'm thinking of trying cccp as I cannot get this looking right with core.

I don't use Core-AVC, I use Shark007, as do quite a few other people here. Just install and it's done, no setup needed. I tried CCCP once and had nothing but problems with it.

Yup, x64. I install the Win7 codecs and then the x64 components.
