Season info possible

Season info possible

Hi

I've posted this on a reply elsewhere in the forum but it's really a question in it's own right...

Is it possible to have Media Browser show both a Series info and then also a Season info when in Poster view?

So, my set up is:

FOLDER: BlackAdder
-----> series.xml
-----> folder.jpg
-----> banner.jpg
-----> FOLDER: Season 01
------------> series.xml
------------> folder.jpg
------------> S01E01 - The Foretelling.avi
------------> S01E02 - Born To Be King.avi
------------> FOLDER: metadata
-----> FOLDER: Season 02
etc......

With the above set up, in Media Browser I can correctly see information about the whole series when I am at the main BlackAdder folder level in VMC.

If I then select BlackAdder and am at the Season view stage, I highlight one of the seasons but I can't see the corresponding Season (or series.xml) info from that particular Season. Instead I see a list of Episodes displayed under the Poster image. Also, the sub-folders are labelled 'Season 01' in Media Browser.

If I rename the 'Season 01' folders to 'Series 01' and clear cache etc. I have the opposite occuring. At BlackAdder folder level I get no Series info (just a list of Season's underneath the Poster image). This I can understand due to the logic employed in the code (no sub-folders called 'Season....' and no episode files called SxxExx.avi. But having the sub-folder called 'Series ...' allows me to see Season info when highlighting a Season. AND the seasons are picking up the Season title from the sub-folders series.xml file so instead of 'Season 01' I can see something like '1 - BlackAdder I', '2 - BlackAdder II'....

Maybe this is how Media Browser is set up to work? But it would be good to be able to see bother Series overview info at Series level and Season overview info as Season level. It seems at the moment it's on or the other! Assume it's something to do with the way Media Browser deals with Series/Season hierarchy? Also, it seems TVDB does not contain Season overview info (a bit of a failing really) - so that's maybe why Media Browser doesn't work the way I hoped/assumed?

I'd appreciate confirmation on the above and then I can at least give up trying to get it to work! :-)

Thanks very much

We don;'t load and season based metadata just images. Tvdb doesn't provide any other season specific information. What do you have in your season related xml files?

Season based info is along the lines of.........

Season 01 - "Prince Edmund, a.k.a. the Black Adder, constantly schemes to take the crown from his father and brother with the help of Lord Percy and Baldrick."

Season 02 - "Lord Edmund Blackadder is now seeking the approval of Queen Elizabeth I with the "help" of Lord Percy Percy and Baldrick."

I guess most series' which have seasons would not require such info as it's generally more of the same and the info at Series level applied. With the BlackAdder seasons (I assume it must apply to others also!) they are set in different era's so a different description is applicable.

It works well when I have the folders named 'Series' but I think that is because MB only seems to allow 1 level of Series descriptions. It did work nicely also in that the Season description in the season sub-folder was getting picked up in MB and displaying instead of folder name - so 'Series 01' was changed to '1 - BlackAdder I' . But, like I say, as soon as I change the folder name to 'Season 01' this stop working. I think due to the fact that MB then uses series.xml at the root folder to display series info, it then won't use the sub-folder series.xml.

This is fair enough if this is how it is intended to work (and TVDB doesn't have the concept of Season specific info). I assume I can rename my folders 'Season 01 - BlackAdder I' and MB will still recognise it and use series.xml file for series info? This might be a bit anal but the later seasons do change their titling slightly (eg. 'BlackAdder The Third, BlackAdder Goes Forth') so I thought it 'important' to display the real season titles (as oppose to just 01, 02, etc.).

Thanks again

Ok I've put in a change that will be in 2.0.4 when it's released that will allow season folders to contain series.xml files with info about the season. (Slightly odd naming and we may change that later but it works for now)

Nice one Paul, thanks for that. And will the Season descriptions pick up the info from within the series.xml file (so you can name the folder 'Season 01' for example but in Media Browser it will appear as whatever you called in in series.xml - eg.'1 - BlackAdder I')?

Cheers and Happy Christmas to you!
