The files are shared to my Media Center, and mapped on their. However, I am running your program on the PC w/ all the files.

If you look at the playlist file in my screenshot, you can see that it is not pointing to the correct movie.

thanks for the reply, can you modify the path in the file to your local drive to see if it works and if it does can you post that file here?

the pc where you have all the files, is the pc name steve-pc2?

Ok, so I made all 4 paths local. When I play the .asx file now (in vlc), it will play the intro, but not the movie. I think the filename of the movie doesn't match.

Yep, Steve-PC2 contains all the files (through external esata raid tower), not sure if that makes a difference.

Ok, tried the new file, still no go.

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\\STEVE-PC2\Y\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros\THX-Cavalcade.m2ts".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '\\STEVE-PC2\Y\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros\THX-Cavalcade.m2ts'. Check the log for details.
File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\\STEVE-PC2\W\Storage 3\HD Movies\American History X (1998)\American_History_X_(1998)_2.mkv".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '\\STEVE-PC2\W\Storage 3\HD Movies\American History X (1998)\American_History_X_(1998)_2.mkv'. Check the log for details.

I tried copying one of the directories above into windows explorer, and that doesn't work either, saying it could not find the directory.

Then I changed the paths to local again and the intro played fine, but when I got to the movie VLC shot out this error:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "W:\Storage 3\HD Movies\American History X (1998)\American_History_X_(1998)_2.mkv".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'W:\Storage 3\HD Movies\American History X (1998)\American_History_X_(1998)_2.mkv'. Check the log for details.

Also, in the new version, I've noticed the "Start Watching" button is now active, however, I have not messed with it yet.

The button shoudnt be in the enabled state, may be I uploaded the wrong version, try the one i am attaching here.

when you say W:\Storage 3\HD Movies\ is this a local directory? W is a local drive?
and after running the app it shud create the asx file and replace the mapped drive with the unc path something like this, your pcname\ path

hope this works... lol

Yes, W is a local drive

Ok, so the new version seems to be renaming the movie file now and targeting it correctly in the .asx file.

When I try to play it though I still get:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\\STEVE-PC2\Y\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros\THX-Moo Can.m2ts".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '\\STEVE-PC2\Y\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros\THX-Moo Can.m2ts'. Check the log for details.

I'm at work atm (trying this over Remote Desktop) not sure if this contributes to it.

When I edit the .asx file and take out my computer name from the path, the intro and movie plays!

So, it seems the program is working now, however, I have to make that change. Perhaps their is some sort of setting on my computer that needs to be changed.

Please note: when I open "\\STEVE-PC2\Y\" in windows explorer, it tells me it cannot find the location.

I have not tried this from my htpc yet. Perhaps this will work since it is on the network. I will try this as soon as I get home.

Cool. I can think of 2 reason why it wont work,
1. vlc not able to decode m2ts but if it plays the file directly without the asx then this is not a issue
2. are you having vpn enabled in the desktop? sometimes if you have vpn or something like tht enabled it will try to find your pc in that network rather than your local pc.
let me know if it works in local. I think it will. good luck.

The good thing with this tool is you can run it as many times and it will recreate the asx with random intro files again from the intro folder.
If ad admin post this as a new tool in the tutorial section and also if i get enough response i will complete the start wacthing and stop watching button which will auto start with windows and watch for new movie folders and auto create asx on the fly!

Regards,
Rathin...

Yeah, VLC can play that just fine.

I'm not even sure what VPN means, so I doubt it has anything to do with that.

Here's something I just found out though, while playing around.

This works:
\\Steve-PC2\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros

This Doesn't:
\\Steve-PC2\Y\Storage 5\#Appz\#Media Center\Movie Intros

So apparently taking out the Drive Letter makes it work. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that these folders are shared. I have Storage 1 through Storage 5 shared on Steve-PC2. These 5 folders are then mapped on my HTPC.
